OSCAR & WALT

World premiere

October-November 2019

Venue

Teatro Arciliuto

Donald Steven Olson's OSCAR & WALT celebrates the enduring legacy of two towering literary figures by re-creating a real-life encounter that took place in 1882 between the 62-year-old American poet Walt Whitman and the 28-year-old Wilde. Cultures clash, egos flare, words fly and secrets emerge as two of the greatest writers of the 19th century come face-to-face in an unforgettable meeting.

Winner of the 2019 "Best Full-Length Play" award from the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights/City of West Hollywood Pride Reading Festival, the ETR production was the world premiere and followed by a professional production in Pittsburgh (2021) and presentations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and at The National Arts Club in New York. It featured Jonathan Headley, Bill Guion, and Caroline Gouger.

“A pleasure…Oscar & Walt is simply good theatre.” --Entertainment Central
